The Philippine Journal of Urology is the official research journal of the Philippine Urological Association, publishing peer-reviewed work across the field of urology. I built its online home on Open Journal Systems, the open-source publishing platform from the Public Knowledge Project, and set the journal up on my own cloud server.
The journal plugins available for WordPress felt limited for this kind of publication, so I moved to a platform built specifically for research. OJS handles the workflow a scientific journal actually needs: issue archives, article pages with abstracts and keywords, how-to-cite tools, PDF publication with an in-browser viewer, and download statistics per article.
Academic and research publishers need a platform built for citing, archiving, and peer review — not a general-purpose CMS with a journal plugin bolted on. I build and host journal and research websites, including Open Journal Systems deployments. If your organization publishes research, contact me about your journal website.
